b.a.r.t. - a digital artist & advisor
A.I. B.A.R.T. is a radically innovative processor invented by Gio Montez which revolutionises the fruition processes of the contemporary art world.
Anagram of “Artificial Buassagine Reveals Treasures”, B.A.R.T. is an Artificial Intelligence which processes the data generated by the ARTup Community through the dApps of the ARTup phygital ecosystem. B.A.R.T. automates the calculation of the art coefficient, the worldwide recognised metric of the value for the signature of the artists, and automates the appreciation of the artworks.

the (s)object of the art matter
B.A.R.T. completes a revolution in the fruition processes of art.
By “fruition” we mean an interpretative-formative, cognitive-morphogenetic process; this is the key to “participation” (participated by the spectator, who becomes the active subject “user”). So “artistic fruition” can be imagined as a bodiless phenomenon; there can be art even without the work, without the artefact, even when the object is completely dematerialised. This renewed sense of contemporary “artistry” falls entirely within the sphere of the subject who interprets what he sees, definitively freeing art from his body and projecting it towards a more contemporary concept of “expanded corporeity”.
THE ART COEFFICIENT: a discourse on the method
BART is based on a group of fundamental algorithms that uses the scientific method of non-compensatory synthesis (see Mazziotta-Pareto-Index) to automate the certification of the value of artistic work. The art coefficient is therefore a positive number between 0.1 and 10, a metric of the value used to measure the reputation of an artist. It is also the multiplier that allows you to obtain an appropriate price for a work of contemporary art knowing the author, the size and the technique (pricing of an artwork) . The price of the work of art is obtained through a simple and widespread formula commonly used by gallery owners all over the world: [(base + height in cm) * ArtCoefficient * 10 = Price in €].
The BART software also has the function of mapping and monitoring the emerging market, generating an unprecedented database relating to emerging artists and the second and third tier contemporary art market. The free certification of the art coefficient with a scientific method guarantees the transparency of the prices and thus breaks down the barriers to entry to the global market.
art community: innovation and resilience
B.A.R.T. it is a glimmer of hope in the moment of social and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 emergency. The entire art sector is going through a profound structural crisis in the years 2020 and 2021: in the annual report Art Basel and UBS estimate a decrease in turnover of about 30% compared to 2019, for a negative value of 30 billion euros. On-line sales, on the other hand, have increased by about + 200%, defining at a global level a prospect of resilience and innovation that are radically transforming the entire sector.
The “BART” project idea based on the invention of an A.I. which automates the certification of the art coefficient, that is the process of economic evaluation of the work performed by an artist. ARTup s.r.l. radically transforms the subjective, slow and costly process into an unprecedented open source software to offer free services for calculating and attributing the coefficient of art and pricing for contemporary works of art. BART is a digital tool developed for the whole ARTup community: artists, especially local producers of the II and III range; promoters such as curators, art consultants, art galleries, foundations and museums; buyers, traders, collectors and investors. It revolutionise the value chain of contemporary art by allowing all users to benefit from a “digital artist & advisor” and the radical process innovations enabled by this A.I. The integration of software with other technologies such as blockchain and internet of things (IoT) generate a so-called “phygital” ecosystem with the aim of breaking down entry barriers and programmatically correcting information asymmetries, adverse choices and various other problems constitutive of both the physical and digital art market.
Against this globalisation and the resulting alienating process for the human being, we intend to disinter-mediate and decentralise production processes to redistribute wealth and preserve even minority cultural differences and expressions, adapting technologies to the needs of the community of producers that generate real value in the art economy.
