Description

The installations contained in each box present a domestic environment which represents an emotional landscape or a state of mind experienced by the artist Monica Pirone.

The Domestic Environment were produced in the Atelier Montez during the residency “SPRAWL” held by artist Monica Pirone in year 2023. The exhibition titled “In the name of the father” has been curated by Gio Montez and presented by Claudia Pecoraro.

“In the Name of the Father, an exhibition by Monica Pirone, which takes its cue from the personal story of the contradictory relationship with the father to broaden the gaze to themes of the collective sphere. The artist’s reflection was born following his father’s death, from which an introspection into the depth of pain or its absence began, in the folds of a very sweet relationship but studded with contrasts, which also implied considerations on male power and about living.
“The theme of the house, first experienced by the Pirone family as a source of great joy and well-being and subsequently of disturbance and suffering, is the subject of this exhibition, precisely in its ambiguous meaning of comfort, of a possible cage, when not a theather of violence.
Solitude, alienation, love, melancholy are the feelings that are the protagonists of small installations that reproduce rooms, domestic environments where white dominates to cancel out and enhance the furnishings. From time to time, flesh-coloured tulle makes its appearance as an abstraction of the human element which amalgamates or in turn becomes a flower, a chandelier, a flooded river. On the back wall of each room appear, like flashes that ignite meanings, some excerpts of poetic phrases extracted from the diaries of the artist’s father, who throughout his life obsessively wrote in his own hand or copied passages from books on history, philosophy , essays.”
